Live On Sunset starts at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 14. If you live a block off Sunset, the weekend starts at noon on Friday. That is when Sunset Boulevard closes between San Vicente Boulevard/Clark Avenue and North Doheny Drive, along with side streets one block north and south. The street doesn't reopen until noon on Sunday.
Live On Sunset is West Hollywood's first free city-produced concert on the Strip. Coverage has focused on the headliner, but for a resident the event is three overlapping blocks of time. Inside a 48-hour closure sits a 24-hour suspension of residential permit parking across the city, and inside that sits a concert of about seven hours.
The Clock Behind the Concert
The City Council staff report from October 5 sets out the full schedule. Here it is in order, with the Strip's own regular programming added in:
| When | What changes |
|---|---|
| Friday, Nov. 13, 12:00 p.m. | Sunset closes from San Vicente/Clark to N. Doheny; side streets one block north and south also close |
| Saturday, Nov. 14, 12:00 p.m. | Second closure: Sunset from San Vicente/Clark east to Larrabee, and San Vicente from Harratt to Sunset |
| Saturday, Nov. 14, 12:00 p.m. | Residential permit-parking restrictions lifted across the city |
| Saturday, Nov. 14, 4:00 p.m. | Live On Sunset begins |
| Saturday, Nov. 14, 6:00 p.m. | Doors at the Whisky a Go Go for its own Saturday bill |
| Saturday, Nov. 14, 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. | Shows at the Comedy Store |
| Saturday, Nov. 14, 11:00 p.m. | Concert ends, per the city's schedule |
| Saturday, Nov. 14, 11:59 p.m. | Second closure lifts |
| Sunday, Nov. 15, 12:00 p.m. | Main closure lifts; permit parking restrictions return |
Sources disagree on the end time. The official event site lists 4 to 11 p.m. Visit West Hollywood lists 4 p.m. to midnight. The street schedule doesn't depend on which is right. The Saturday-only closure runs until 11:59 p.m., and the main stretch stays closed until Sunday noon either way.
The report also gives the city room to change things. The event footprint "may incorporate adjacent parking lots," and the City Manager can adjust street closures and the footprint as plans firm up. The table above is the plan the council approved. It may not be the final version.
The Date Moved, and the Parking Rule Came With It
The first date chosen was Saturday, October 17. According to the staff report, staff and the producer JJ-LA recommended November 14 "upon further vetting." WEHOonline reported that the council approved the date along with the street closures and the suspension of residential permit parking restrictions. JJ-LA also produces the OUTLOUD Music Festival at WeHo Pride.
From noon Saturday to noon Sunday, residential permit-parking restrictions are waived across the whole city, not only on the streets near Sunset. The streets on either side of Sunset will feel the change most.
Residents raised this when the council discussed the event. According to WEHOonline, public comment asked the city not to lift permit parking, warning that visitors would fill narrow neighborhood streets looking for spaces while Sunset was closed.
Speakers also asked for shuttle buses from the Kings Road and West Hollywood Park parking structures. Councilmember Lauren Meister suggested handling permit parking the way the city does at Pride, where restrictions are lifted but the change isn't advertised so visitors aren't sent into residential streets. Councilmember Chelsea Byers asked whether the city's PickUp trolley could be used. Staff said shuttles were being considered, with stops around the city bringing people up to Sunset, and that a virtual meeting for residents was planned.
As of late October, the event site and city materials don't list shuttle routes, gate times or set times. Updates come through liveonsunsetweho.com. You can also text "sunset" to (323) 848-5000 for SMS updates.
Where the Car Goes
If you're driving to the concert, or need a spot for guests, Visit West Hollywood lists four public options:
- Kings Road Parking Structure, 8383 Santa Monica Blvd.: $1 per 15 minutes, $10 maximum
- West Hollywood Park, 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.: $1 per 15 minutes, $12 maximum
- Queens Lot, 8459 Sunset Blvd.: $2 per hour
- Sunset Lot, 8775 Sunset Blvd.: $2 per hour
The two structures on the list are the same ones residents asked the city to use as shuttle hubs, and they have fixed daily maximums. The Sunset Lot is on the Strip itself. Because the footprint may take in adjacent lots, check the event site before counting on it.
The weather won't change these plans. Organizers told the council the event is rain or shine unless conditions become unsafe. WEHOonline also reported that the footprint can hold about 10,000 people.
A Lineup Drawn From Strip Venues
Most of the bill traces back to a West Hollywood room. Sheryl Crow headlines. Her first studio album since 2024, Pick You Up, came out October 9, and the city calls this her first major show since the release. In the city's announcement, Mayor John Heilman noted that early in her career she played the Roxy and the Viper Room.
Empress Of has sold out the Roxy twice. Grace Bowers broke out at the Troubadour, and her debut EP, Grace, is out November 5. Doug Locke built his career at Hotel Ziggy. Mia Moretti, a longtime resident and Visit West Hollywood ambassador, started out playing vinyl at The Standard. Local Natives are marking the 10th anniversary of Sunlit Youth.
The Los Angeles Times describes the event as distinct from the ticketed Sunset Strip Music Festival, which ran for seven years and ended in 2014. Entry is free, but you need to register. Registration opened October 14 and runs through Tixr from the event site.
The Strip Keeps Its Own Calendar
The concert has one stage, but the clubs along the Strip keep their usual Saturday schedules. The Whisky a Go Go has a full bill that night, led by Killer Dwarfs with Evolution Eden, Prima Donna Rising and others, with doors at 6 p.m. The Comedy Store has "Headliners of the OR" at 8 p.m. and "The Late Show" at 10 p.m.
The city is encouraging more of this. Staff told the council that businesses holding their own events that weekend can have special-event permit fees waived, and that the city plans to promote some of those events alongside the concert. Staff also said they were working with businesses directly affected by the closure on access and staying open. If you have a reservation or tickets on the Strip that night, ask the venue how guests should arrive.
Little Luck is a new option for dinner on the Strip. The h.wood Group opened this modern izakaya on October 19 at 9229 West Sunset Boulevard, in the former Bootsy Bellows space, with chef Erik Idos in the kitchen. Eater LA covered the opening. It will be less than a month old on concert night.
The Rest of November
The closure weekend sits in the middle of a busy civic month. On November 20, the city holds its Transgender Day of Remembrance ceremony from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. West Hollywood Day is on the city calendar for November 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. Winter Wonderland follows on December 12.
Sunset Boulevard reopens at noon on Sunday, November 15, and permit parking restrictions return at the same time.
