Bel Air's November Runs on Three Canyon Roads

October 22, 2026

Most of what is new in Bel Air this fall sits along the neighborhood's edges. Two museums have opened new seasons on the Sepulveda side. A hotel lawn on Stone Canyon Road has its last screenings this week. A strip center at the top of Beverly Glen is waiting on one new tenant. The canyon with the most on its calendar is also the one where the freeway is still under construction, so the drive you take helps decide which part of November you see.

Sepulveda Has the Busiest Calendar

Both of the big institutions on the 405 corridor launched new programs in the same week, and their schedules run well into winter.

The Skirball Cultural Center opened three exhibitions on October 22 with a free public evening. The largest is The 1960s—A Generation on Fire: Judy Baca's Great Wall of Los Angeles. It shows new monumental mural sections about the 1960s, along with studies and an immersive video installation. Two smaller shows opened alongside it. Jenny Yurshansky: What We Carry uses collected objects and Los Angeles immigration stories to look at family memory and belonging. Patrisse Cullors: Wishes Made Material is a multimedia installation that grew out of Black-Jewish dialogue gatherings held at the Skirball.

Just up the hill, the Getty Center opened Reggie Burrows Hodges: A Theater of Passions on October 20. It runs through February 28, 2027, and its new paintings respond to works by Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi in the Getty collection. The Getty's major fall exhibition opens later in November.

Here is how the two calendars line up from now through Thanksgiving week:

  1. Sunday, November 8, 4:00 p.m. A Sigd holiday program at the Skirball with Beejhy Barhany and Jonah Platt.
  2. Tuesday, November 10, 7:00 p.m. Patrisse Cullors in conversation with Ashley Jackson at the Skirball, linked to the Wishes Made Material installation.
  3. Sunday, November 15. "Oaxacan Recipes and Remembrance with Bricia Lopez" at the Getty Center, priced at $135.
  4. Tuesday, November 17, 9:45 a.m. A morning talk by Kurt Petersen at the Skirball.
  5. Tuesday, November 24. A Light in the Dark: Joseph Wright of Derby opens at the Getty and runs through March 14, 2027. It reunites paintings by Wright, including the Getty's rediscovered Two Boys with a Bladder.

All of this sits on one corridor through the end of the year and into spring. The Skirball's new shows, the Hodges installation and the Wright exhibition will be open at the same time from late November onward. A single afternoon on the Sepulveda side can cover more new work than at any point since summer.

The Freeway Under That Calendar

The same corridor is in the middle of the Interstate 405 Sepulveda Pass Pavement Rehabilitation Project, a roughly $143.7 million Caltrans job between Van Nuys and Westwood. The project replaces sections of two lanes in each direction from Victory Boulevard to Mulholland Drive, part of nearly 92 lane miles of restoration overall.

Here is what that looks like for someone driving to the Getty or the Skirball this season, according to Caltrans:

  • Speed. Caltrans scheduled a temporary 55 mph limit for sections through the Sepulveda Pass beginning May 26, 2026. Under that plan, the reduction starts on the southbound side and shifts to the northbound side as paving progresses.
  • Surface. The plan calls for "Uneven Pavement" signs between Wilshire Boulevard and Victory Boulevard and warns that drivers may notice slight elevation differences when changing lanes. The paving is planned to begin near Wilshire and extend progressively toward Victory.
  • Duration. The reduced speed limit and uneven pavement are expected to last through winter 2026 or early spring 2027. Overall completion is projected for winter 2027, with plant establishment continuing into 2028.
  • Closures. Caltrans plans weekday overnight lane closures and some 55-hour weekend lane reductions. It does not post specific dates on the project page and directs drivers to QuickMap for current conditions.

The 55 mph limit and uneven-pavement conditions are scheduled to last about as long as the Wright exhibition. Checking QuickMap before a 7 p.m. Skirball talk or a weekend at the Getty is a sensible step through March.

Stone Canyon Road Has Its Own Calendar

Hotel Bel-Air, at 701 Stone Canyon Road, sits in the middle of the neighborhood, away from the freeway corridor. Its fall program is smaller and more seasonal than the museums', and part of it is already over by this Thursday.

The hotel's autumn screenings on the Front Lawn run October 27 through 30, each at 7 p.m. Two remain: When Harry Met Sally on Thursday, October 29, which is rated R, and Hocus Pocus on Friday, October 30. Earlier in the week, You've Got Mail played on the 27th and Practical Magic on the 28th.

The next date on the hotel's calendar is quieter. Its Oh My Mahjong partnership, an American Mahjong evening that first ran on October 23, returns on November 20. Between events, The Restaurant at Hotel Bel-Air serves breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch and dinner on its regular schedule.

The Sepulveda side's calendar runs into March. Stone Canyon's comes in short runs, with a few nights in late October and a single evening in late November. The Mahjong night falls four days before the Wright exhibition opens, which makes the week of November 20 one of the season's busiest for anyone who wants to cover both sides.

Beverly Glen Circle Waits on One Storefront

The third canyon is the most everyday of the three. Glen Centre, the strip at the top of Beverly Glen Boulevard, already holds a full set of restaurants, and its fall news comes down to a single address.

The center's directory lists these food and drink tenants:

Address on Beverly Glen Circle Tenant
2930 Vibrato Grill and Jazz
2932 Il Segreto Ristorante
2932½ Sushi House Unico
2948 Beverly Glen Deli
2952 Starbucks
2958 Jayde's Market; The Taco Stand, listed as "Opening Fall 2026"
2960 Fabrocini's Beverly Glen

The directory is undated, so a current listing does not guarantee a business is open. Jayde's Market still describes its market, café and deli as operating at the center, and advertises coffee by Intelligentsia. The center's directory lists both Jayde's and the incoming taqueria at #2958.

What Now Los Angeles reported in July that The Taco Stand planned a shop at 2958 Beverly Glen Circle, after a filing with the state's alcohol licensing agency. The brand serves Tijuana-inspired tacos. In its September fall openings guide, The Infatuation put the Beverly Glen opening at "late fall." The guide described handmade corn tortillas, mesquite-grilled fillings and San Diego-style items such as carne asada fries, and noted that the brand has already expanded to Orange County and Miami. As of mid-October, The Taco Stand's own site still lists Beverly Glen as coming soon, with no calendar date.

The non-food tenants are what make the strip useful day to day: Forma Pilates, Bel Air Dry Cleaners, Mitra's Alterations, Beverly Glen Mailboxes, Beverly Glen Pharmacy, a nail lounge and a salon, plus EV chargers. Shops include Bluemercury, Roam, LAYA, Flicka, Market and Switch. None of this is new. The new part is that a mesquite-grill taqueria from a multi-city brand is set to join a strip whose dining has so far been Italian, sushi, a deli and a jazz grill.

Mulholland Holds the Civic Calendar

The ridge that connects the tops of all three canyons has the season's civic dates. The Bel Air-Beverly Crest Neighborhood Council lists a Planning and Land Use Committee meeting on Tuesday, November 10, at 7 p.m. The public can attend in person at TreePeople, 12601 Mulholland Drive, or join online or by phone. The full Board Meeting follows on Wednesday, November 18, at 7 p.m.

The land use meeting falls on the same night as the Cullors conversation at the Skirball. The board meeting comes two days before the Mahjong evening on Stone Canyon. Put together, November in Bel Air has eight fixed dates across four roads. Five of them are on the Sepulveda side, where the repaving is scheduled to run through the whole season.

If you are mapping your own November around these canyons and want to talk about how each part of Bel Air fits into daily life, The Alligood Group is glad to share what we know about the neighborhood's corridors, from Beverly Glen Circle to Stone Canyon.
